About the bookmobile In February 2015, plans were made to retrofit an existing, retired school bus into a mobile community library. Beebe Public School (Beebe, Arkansas) maintenance and construction crews began the process of dismantling the interior of the bus. Windows and bus seats were removed. Air conditioning and lighting were added. A speaker system was installed and shelves were custom-built. The bus was transported to Sherwood to be “wrapped” with the logo selected for the mobile library: Beebe Badger Bookmobile…Blazing a Reading Trail. The shelves were stocked with books for community members ages Pre-K through adult. The bookmobile will join the summer lunch meal program on planned stops Monday through Thursday of each week. All community members are invited to stop by any location to check out books from the mobile library. We ask that you borrow a maximum of three books at one time. Books will be checked out on the honor system and may be returned during any of the bookmobile stops.

Donations |
The bookmobile has and continues to receive generous donations from our community. New or gently used books are accepted. Cash donations are welcome, as well. We keep a wishlist of books that patrons have requested, and will use cash donations to purchase the books on our patron wishlist. An element of the vision for our mobile library is redistributing the literacy wealth in our community. Many people have books in their home that have been read one or two times are are currently collecting dust on a shelf. Our vision is to get those books into the hands of more readers.

We are very excited to announce that we will be hosting programs at some of our bookmobile stops this summer. The programming schedule is a work in progress, but we need YOU! We are seeking volunteers to share your knowledge and experiences with our bookmobile patrons. If you have traveled extensively and/or have artifacts you could share, are a terrific storyteller, or have any other unique talents, skills or interests that you would be willing to share with our patrons, please contact Kay Calvert at [email protected] or 501-882-5463 X1042. Many dates are still available. We welcome volunteers who could join us for ONE stop, for ONE day, OR for multiple days. We know there is a wealth of knowledge and experience in our community and we would like to share it with, specifically, the student patrons who join us at the bookmobile.
