Ms. Mills and Bubbles

We were grateful to have Literacy Leader (and Math Coach) Ms. Katrina Mills on the bookmobile this afternoon!  She had some outstanding BUBBLE experiments for our patrons.  Everyone had a great time...it was so interesting to see all of the different ways to make bubbles AND to see all of the different ways to make bubble wands.
No matter what shape the wand was, though, the bubble was still a sphere...Ms. Mills' daughter, Avery, was on hand to explain why:
Bubbles are round — spherical — because there is an attractive force called surface tension that pulls molecules of water into the tightest possible groupings. And the tightest possible grouping that any collection of particles can achieve is to pack together into a sphere.

After a rainy week last week AND the July 4 holiday...we're back!  Ms. Annita had a nice crowd at Summer Literacy Camp on Monday.  They read Scaredy Squirrel.  All of these students have been bringing their books back to the bookmobile regularly and have UPGRADED to our canvas book bags.  Congrats!  We were also privileged to have Ms. Lilly Lay join us on the bookmobile today.  She dressed for the occasion in her lovely dress, sunglasses and WHITE gloves.  It is always a treat to have a princess on board.  It was also exciting to meet a fellow Clifford (the Big Red Dog) fan today...she was excited to find two Christmas Clifford books.  We look forward to seeing our patrons again and again and again this summer!  Keep reading!!!

Our McRae patrons were ready to see us this week!  Ms. Annita taught the Summer Literacy Camp students a new song, which they performed on the bookmobile.  We also want to give a SHOUT OUT to Ms. Cathy Payne, who opens the building for us each week and cools it down on hot summer days!  She also picks up some of our patrons to be sure they have books for summer reading.  THANKS for being a literacy leader, Ms. Payne.  We were excited to see kids on bikes, on foot and in cars!!!

Dr. Calvert's face is expressing her happiness to see bookmobile ambassador Ben!  He was waiting under a shade tree when we arrived...always welcoming us to Stoney Point.  Thanks, Ben!  We enjoyed seeing all of our Stoney Point friends this week.  Until next week...happy reading!

What a WONDERFUL Wednesday on the bookmobile.  The temperatures were cool and the KIDS were even COOLER!  These friends visited the Church of the Nazarene stop this morning.  We were especially thankful for Mr. Jeff, who opened the doors for us and was such a kind host.  Great books = happy smiles!

Once again, our Floyd Friends welcomed us with smiles!  We had SIX brand new patrons join us on the bookmobile for the FIRST time!  We want to send a big SHOUT OUT to Ms. Donna, who comes each week to open the doors, turn on the lights and air, and weed the flower beds to make everything look (and FEEL) welcoming.  She is a gem and we are grateful for her service to her community and to our summer literacy projects.  Way to go, Donna!

We had another terrific week on the Badger Bookmobile!  Thanks to all of our frequent patrons as well as some BRAND NEW patrons for coming out and choosing some great books.  Dr. Calvert took FOUR boxes of books to the bookmobile on Monday morning to re-stock it...that means a lot of books were checked out during this week on the road.  Way to go, Beebe Readers!

Forrest Friends...from SLC

We were excited to have some forest friends with us at Summer Literacy Camp today!  We read Hello, Ocean by Pam Munoz Ryan and talked about all of the senses we use at the ocean.  Since we aren't near the ocean...their take-home-work is a nature walk...where they can discover and list all of the things we can be aware of, using our five senses, right here at home!  We also played a fun rhyming game...AND...Dr. Calvert brought a conch shell straight from the ocean...we could all hear the ocean.  It was a terrific day at Summer Literacy Camp 2017!
