It was another exciting, although short, week on the bookmobile! This week, we named TWO Bookmobile Ambassadors, Emily and Ben. During the first week Emily and Ben were the only students to visit the bookmobile at their stops in McRae and Stoney Point. Since then, Emily and Ben have been working hard....recruiting more patrons from their respective areas. Now, we have 18-20 patrons each week at both McRae and Stoney Point. WAY TO GO Emily and Ben. To reward them for their efforts, Emily and Ben received bookmobile t-shirts that match the ones worn each day by our bookmobile personnel. Keep up the good work, ambassadors!

Ms. Nona Richey was a special guest on the bookmobile on Thursday, June 30. She read Watermelon Wishes, by Lisa Moser, to our patrons and served cold, delicious watermelon! YUM! It was a refreshing treat on a HOT day! When the BOYS arrived...a seed spitting contest began!!! Not to be outdone, the girls joined right in on the fun. Check out the captions to find two important notes...our #1 patrons (most times visited) AND one of our bookmobile ambassadors! We were excited, this week, to have some brand new, first-time bookmobile patrons on board. We are ALWAYS excited to see repeat customers, as well!
Our TERRIFIC bus driver, Ms. Peggy, had a special visitor on the bookmobile this week...her grandson, Landon. THANKS, Ms. Peggy for encouraging young Landon to enjoy BOOKS!
Ms. Jessie Bell joined us on the bookmobile on Wednesday, June 29. She taught our patrons how to make origami animals. As you can see by the looks on their faces, they enjoyed the task and produced some OUTSTANDING origami animals. THANK YOU, Ms. Bell for investing your summer time in our Beebe students. YOU are a difference maker!
Floyd, AR saw a North American celebrity yesterday on the bookmobile route! Ms. Diana Wagener brought Canadian and American Collie champion, Sheldon, to our Floyd bookmobile stop. Everyone loved meeting and petting Sheldon. Ms. Diana taught our patrons about approaching an unknown animal, about rabies, and about taking good care of their pets. When Ms. Diana walked in with Sheldon, one of the adults exclaimed, "It's Lassie!" Ms. Diana has offered to supply the bookmobile with Lassie books for a new generation of readers...watch for them, soon! Ms. Diana also brought coloring sheets, wrist bands and pencils from the AKC for all patrons. If you read this post about Sheldon and mention it to Ms. Calvert on the bookmobile today, tomorrow, or next week...she will have something special for you, as well! This week is SHARK WEEK on the Discovery Channel, but every week is shark week on the bookmobile! Our SHARK books are some of the most requested books we have! Today was no different...one of very first patrons on board today requested...SHARK books. The ONE WORD I think of when I see these two patrons is JOY! They came on the bookmobile smiling this morning and they kept smiling the entire time they were on board. They left a smile on our faces for the rest of the day...thanks for starting our route off right!
Mrs. Finley had the opportunity to read to a group of bookmobile patrons this week. She chose, "Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus." Thank heavens, we have Ms. Peggy...so we don't have to rely on a pigeon! A couple of our Stoney Point patrons brought an extra special guest this week, their dog, Marley. We were also thrilled to have Mr. Stinnett join us on the bookmobile at our Windwood stop this week. Mr. Stinnett taught our patrons about the effects of UV radiation. It was another terrific week on the bookmobile. Another of our weekly stops is at Floyd United Methodist Church. The students enjoy a delicious, nutritious FREE lunch before browsing at the bookmobile. The sun was HOT, but the smiles were BIG when we arrived. We enjoyed seeing patrons from preschool through adult. We have a student at Floyd who would like to read more Hardy Boys Mysteries...but, we only have one or two...do any of our blog readers have any Hardy Boys Mysteries that you would like to donate to the bookmobile? We keep a wish list of books that patrons request...if you would like to purchase any books from our wishlist for the bookmobile, please contact [email protected]. THANKS!
One of our weekly stops is Antioch Community Church. We enjoy lessons, compiled by the Extension Service Office, and presented by Ms. Linda Jenkins on "A" weeks. This week, Ms. Jenkins taught us about butterflies. She taught us about "puddling" where a butterfly sits on a flat rock and sips on muddy water to quench its thirst and to get nutrients. She also showed us a rotting banana and told us that a butterfly would enjoy it as a treat. Josie and Jude especially enjoyed Ms. Jenkins' presentation.
